In Roulette, a small ball is sent spinning around a spinning wheel with numbered slots on it. Wherever the ball comes to rest in a slot, that is the number of chance. The difference between American and European Roulette is that the Europeans are satisfied with 36 numbers on the wheel plus an extra one for 0, while the Americans add a second Zero - 00. Clearly a roulette wheel with 37 possibilities gives the player slightly better odds than a wheel of 38 slots. Betting is base on the Inside or Outside areas of the table.
Inside Bets
This involves betting on specific numbers in the 'inside field' of the table. Payouts are high but so is the risk of losing.

• Split Bet - Chip on line dividing two numbers - 17:1 odds.
• Street Bet - Chip on outside edge of three-number horizontal row - 11:1 odds.
• Corner Bet - Chip on line dividing four numbers - 8:1 odds.
• Five Number Bet - Chip in areas designated for 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 - 6:1 odds.
• Six Number Bet - Chip on outside line covering two rows of three numbers each - 5:1 odds.
Outside Bets
This involves betting on a range of group of numbers on the 'outside field' of the table. Payouts are far lower.
• Chip on red or black marker for these colors - 1:1 odds.
• Chip in one of three areas - 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36 - 2:1 odds. Column Bets - chip on edge of one of three vertical columns of numbers - 2:1 odds.
